Pathways of homeostatic dendritic cell maturation (141934)
Our lab recently found that apoptotic cell engulfment drives the homeostatic maturation of Type 1 conventional dendritic cells (cDC1s). The process is hallmarked by changes in cholesterol metabolism that are orchestrated by the transcription factor LXRb and the unfolded protein response sensor IRE1. Engulfment-driven homeostatic DC maturation can be mimicked by the uptake of empty, non-cargo containing lipid nanoparticles. Current studies in the Janssens Lab aim to understand which signalling pathways contribute to homeostatic dendritic cell maturation and how homeostatic mature DCs help maintaining the balance between immunity and tolerance.
